Wannabea Farm, LLC is located in Central Kentucky, 30 miles south of Lexington. We moved here in 1998 to fulfill our dreams of having horses in our lives again, enjoying riding and showing the first several years. With a combined 40 years of horse experience, our ultimate dream was to someday be able to breed well-rounded extraordinary foals of intelligent minds, superb athleticism and excellent dispositions which could be used in sporting disciplines at all levels, yet be the all-around family horse that could trail ride and do play days as well.
Our first foals have now started their performance careers, and the results have been more than we could have hoped. Every foal we have produced or raised thus far has gone on to a performance career in disciplines such as CDE, Competitive Trail, Barrel Racing, and Reining, as well as all-around pleasure classes in local shows. The satisfaction is immense.
In addition, we offer full-care pasture boarding for retirees. Being entrusted with the care of horses who have worked hard and performed for so many years, and watching them enjoy the "easy life" in their later years has many rewards. Wannabea Farm, LLC thanks their boarding clients for letting us be the last chapter in the lives of these special horses.
Occasionally, we find a mature horse that has the capability to become your next trail horse. These mature horses are not always listed on our For Sale page, as they sell quickly, so please contact us if you are looking.
Our Breeding Philosophy
Our breeding business is based upon our broodmares. At Wannabea Farm, LLC our mares have been carefully chosen based upon temperament, trainability, and athleticism/movement. We will never compromise on these three standards. Only by ensuring each mare possesses all three requirements can we reliably expect to produce foals of superb intelligence, athleticism, and a disposition everyone in the family will love. Of course the same criteria are used in evaluating each sire to which they are bred. We choose our sires carefully based upon specific characteristics for each mare.
Wannabea Farm, LLC also strongly believes in letting our horses be horses. This means they are on 24-hour turnout with a large shelter - with blanketing as necessary to withstand our windy winters. Our horses are stalled only when necessary. This helps ensure our mares stay happy and healthy in the most natural state possible, in turn producing well-adjusted and socialized foals, with good minds. We also handle each of our horses daily, and spend a lot of time with the foals, building a strong foundation, as their future depends on it.
We owe it to our foals to give them every advantage - athletic ability, good conformation, and a disposition to handle training and life in general with a willing, positive attitude. We want every horse we sell to always be in a loving home and treated with respect, so it is very important we start them out with the "right stuff" to lessen any chance they will end up in an unsuitable home due to behavior or conformation issues.
